Request info about the monuments
The B&B Villa Bentivoglio is located in the village of Piazza Armerina, a beautiful city of art nestled in the centre of Sicily, which boasts a large number of monuments bearing witness to a glorious past.
One of the jewels in the town's crown is undoubtedly the Villa Romana del Casale, which dates back to the end of the 4th century AD and belonged to a powerful Roman family.
The splendid imperial villa in the Roman heart of Sicily, in the province of Enna, is a magnificent rural residence characterised by the presence of splendid mosaics, considered the most beautiful and best preserved of their kind.

Nature around the village

Piazza Armerina stands on high ground in the southern Erei mountains, in the central-eastern part of Sicily.
In addition to being surrounded by the forests of the Ronza Park and suggestive woodlands, the city stands amidst other monuments, sites of historical and natural interest, such as the Olivo dam, an artificial reservoir, and the archaeological site of Montagna di Marzo, also shrouded in greenery.

A few kilometres from the town is located
the Oriented Nature Reserve
Rossomanno-Grottascura-Bellia.

The churches of the city

Piazza Armerina is also called the 'city of 100 churches', precisely because there are so many consecrated buildings dating back to past eras.
Of particular note are:
  • Piazza Armerina Cathedral: dedicated to Maria Santissima Delle Vittorie, it is a large building of worship in a mixed Gothic, Mannerist and Baroque style. It has a 40 m high bell tower dating back to the 15th century, which was already in the previous church, in place of which the current cathedral was erected;
  • Church of San Rocco (also known as 'Fundrò'): dating back to 1613, it has a bell gable and a rich Baroque portal;
  • Church of St Peter (17th century): over the centuries, it served as the Pantheon for the town's nobility. Attached to this church were a monastery and the 'Selva', later used as a public garden, home to rare animal species and numerous centuries-old plants;
  • Church of St. Stephen (late 16th century).
